Just Say No To Too Much Screen Time?

By: Carrie Buchanan

Sounds impossible but also so needed.

I don’t know about you – but I feel like some days I am glued to a screen.  Whether it’s a computer screen through the workday, or scrolling my social media feeds on my phone in the morning and at night.

It’s hard to put that phone down when the information coming at you never stops.  New videos, new posts, new people to follow.  Constant information.  Constant distraction.

I’m embarassed to admit how much time I spend with my phone in my hand – so when I came across a digital detox challenge online – I didn’t hesitate.  I checked “YES” right away.

The Digital Detox Challenge started July 1 – and so far I’m not showing up the way I’d hoped.  So maybe – if I know someone else (like YOU) is doing it too – it will be easier.

It’s FREE. It’s 31 days.  Each day, you’re encouraged to “cut screen time and embrace offline moments to boost clarity and connection with a few scientifically backed perks like:

IMproved mental well-being. Reduces anxiety and depression, boosting mood and clarity.

Better sleep.

Enhanced social connection.

What it looks like?

– 2 Hours Screen-Free

Limit recreational social media use to 30 minutes per day.

– No Phone During Meals

– (Optional) Screenless Sunday: Go all-in with a full day or 8 consecutive hours screen-free each Sunday.

I want more of that.  So I am committing to it.  And it will start this weekend as we go away to do a little camping.  A focus on nature, swatting mosquitoes, eating marshmallows and getting lost in the peace of a weekend away.

Let me know if you’re willing to do the challenge too!
